Before I fully settled in the business world, I was a typical fitness enthusiast with a special interest in weight lifting.
I was so into weightlifting that I considered applying to join the Nigerian national team…

At first, I dismissed it as constipation and made a mental note to drink more water…
But the struggle continued no matter how many liters of water I drank.
Not too long after, I noticed a reddish stain on my stool, and the water in the toilet bowl was always a bright red after I used it.
I remember one such painful toilet occasion, the blood stains were so much… I immediately cleaned up, found the nearest mirror, and turned my behind to it.
What I saw scared the hell out of me!
Not only was the whole circumference of my anus swollen, but about 40% of it was torn, and bleeding with a slimy, smelly mucus oozing from it.
I immediately ran to the Pharmacy a few blocks from my home, explained my situation, and was immediately prescribed some drugs, all amounting to N11,000.
I took the drugs as recommended, but aside from the fact that my feces softened during the time I was on medication, it did nothing to ease the swelling, tears, and blood stains from my anus.
This caused me a great deal of worry and sleepless nights.
Around the time I started experiencing this pile issue, I was just 4yrs into marriage with my two kids still below the age of 3…

But my hope was short-lived, because after a month… All I could boast of was still a ruptured anus and diarrhea.
Yet nothing about the swelling improved, instead it got bigger.
